APLA at the 2005 AAA Annual Meetings

APLA-Sponsored Panels and Workshops
The Association for Political and Legal Anthropology sponsors panels, workshops, and an invited lecture biennially at the
meetings of the American Anthropological Association.

This year’s schedule includes:

  • Invited Session, "Democracy in America: 200 Years after Tocqueville" organized by Julie Brugger and Sara P. Robinson on Thursday, December 1, 4:00-5:15 pm.
  • Invited Session, co-sponsored with the AAA Human Rights Committee, "Transnationalism and the Anthropology of Rights," organized by Mark R. Goodale and Sally Engle Merry on Friday, December 2, 1:45-5:30 pm.
  • Roundtable Session " Religions Meet Law and Politics in the New Europe," led by John Bowen on Saturday, December 3, 1-3 pm. Attendance is limited please sign up when you register for the conference.
  • Roundtable Session "Ethnographic Approaches to Bureaucracy" led by Don Brenneis on Saturday, December 3, 9-11 am. Attendance is limited please sign up when you register for the conference.
  • The Association Business Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 1, 6:15-7:00 pm.
