Carwil Bjork-James 2012-2013 Minority Dissertation Fellowship Winner

AAA and the Committee on Minority Issues in Anthropology (CMIA) are pleased to announce the selection of Carwil Bjork-James as recipient of the 2012-2013 AAA Minority Dissertation Fellowship.Bjork-James' dissertation, titled "Claiming Space, Redefining Politics: Urban Protest and Grassroots Power in Bolivia", focuses on "analyzing the spatial logic of the protests that led to Bolivia's current political transformation..."Bjork-James' Dissertation Committee Chairperson, Marc Edelman, says "He [Bjork-James] is a rigorous, creative and very promising scholar."

Carwil received his BA at Northwestern University in Mathematics and Physics and a Master of Public Policy degree in Environmental and Human Rights Policy from the University of Chicago.He is currently working on his PhD in Cultural Anthropology at CUNY Graduate Center.
