Mark Lewine and Bob Muckle are interested in forming a network of colleagues interested in forming Community Research Programs centered on anthropology, but including other disciplines, notably history and sociology. The network would serve as a vehicle for involving students in community-based research activities supervised by faculty and led by research interns (majors in the field from regional universities and seniors from regional communities). The purposes of such programs include 1) Recruitment of motivated high school students to the college; 2) Increased student retention through added depth and interest to the standard curricula; and 3) Faculty development through collaborative connections with colleagues from other disciplines, both within the core college and other area colleges and research organizations. For further discussion of this opportunity, contact Mark Lewine (mlewine@ core.com; tel 216/987-4513) or Bob Muckle (bmuckle@capcollege.bc.ca; tel 604/990-7853).
