Content States: Static, Dynamic, or Auto-detect
For sites configured to generate static content, page authors can either explicitly set the state of the page or rely on site-wide or template-based settings for generating static/dynamic content. Enabling Static Content Generation does not automatically make pages static. Dynamic Elements and conditions, as well as forcing dynamic state can override global static settings. See What Makes Content Dynamic? and Best Practices.
The following options are available in the Cache/Static Settings dialog for most pages. Exceptions include pages with secure content, pages which have content customized for certain groups of users, pages with errors, and pages (such as search results) which are served in response to specific individual user requests:
- Always- The state of the page is manually set to static, indicating that page content is constant for at least a known period of time. The content is served from the static server. All CommonSpot-generated links to this page will use the static server’s URL for this page. Note that when this setting is used for pages with dynamic content, the 'Cache Dynamic Content' section should be used to control how frequently the content should be updated on the static server.
- If No Dynamic Content – CommonSpot automatically detects whether the page is static or dynamic. If the page contains no dynamic content, it will be served from the static server. Otherwise, the dynamic server is required in order to serve the non-static content.
- Never - The page is always served from the dynamic server, regardless of whether or not the page has any dynamic content.
