Manage Elements

Access the Manage Elements dialog by expanding Elements & Forms in the left panel of the Site Administration dashboard and clicking Elements. This dialog provides a central place to administer all standard and custom Elements for a site. Use this dialog for:

Use the Search dropdown to search by Element name, or use the Type dropdown to filter for Standard, Custom, Local or Global Custom Elements, or Elements saved under new names or categories.

Click the edit icon

to display context-sensitive menus for modifying your site's Elements. CommonSpot displays a more extensive set of options for Custom Elements than for Standard Elements. Only Elements supporting render handlers display rendler handler options, as shown below.

In addition, CommonSpot makes copy and delete actions available for Custom Elements. You can optionally unlock imported Custom Elements.

Element options allow you to control an Element's attributes (such as name, description, and category), security, and the custom render handlers assigned to it.

Type	Displays a dropdown for sorting by standard or Custom Element Types.
State	Displays a dropdown for sorting by Element state.
Category	Displays a dropdown for sorting by Element categories currently in use at your site.
Manage Categories	Displays the Manage Element Categories dialog for viewing or changing current Element category assignments or for creating new Element categories.
	For Custom Elements, indicates a locked object.
	Edit Element. Depending on Element type, the Actions column displays a set or subset of the following options: Properties - For all Elements, opens the New Custom Element dialog for viewing or changing the current Element name, category, or description, or setting special properties for Global Custom Elements. Field Definitions - For Custom Elements opens the Custom Element Field Definitions dialog for defining new fields for Elements and setting their attributes. Data Browser Properties - For Custom Elements, opens the Data Browser Properties dialog for selecting the fields contributors see in the data browser window. Viewing Page & Search Properties - For Global Custom Elements, displays the Viewing Page and Search Properties dialog for defining whether to include the Element in full-text indexes and index attributes. Security - For all Elements, displays an Edit Security dialog for Administrators Reference. Change Owner - For all Elements, displays the Custom Element Change Owner - Add User dialog for reassigning rights to this Element. For Custom Elements, you can customize permissions. Ghost Text - For all Elements, opens the Administrators Reference dialog for creating text that displays for contributors before they enter Element data. Add Render Handler - For Custom Elements, displays the Add or Edit Render Handler dialog for Defining Render Handlers. If a Custom Element has a render handler associated with it, you can use the link within the Custom Element's description to access these dialog boxes. Add Display Template - For Custom Elements, displays a dialog for Defining Display Templates. If a Custom Element has a display template associated with it, you can use the link within the Custom Element's description to access these dialog boxes Export - For Custom Elements, displays the Export - Step 1 of 2 dialog for Exporting a Custom Element Unlock - For imported Custom Elements, displays a warning dialog for unlock imported object. Usage - Displays the Element Usage dialog for identifying frequency of use and location for this Element. View Data - Displays the View Data dialog for custom element reuse when filtering for manual records, with filter options for Custom Element records. See Select Rendering Mode in the Elements Reference. Submitting this dialog displays records matching your criteria with edit and delete options (with permissions).

	For all Element types, displays options for changing the availability of the current Element.
Add New Element	Opens the New Custom Element dialog for creating a new Custom Element for your site.
Import Custom Element	Opens the Administrators Reference for Importing a Custom Element.
View Usage	Displays the Element Usage dialog for viewing the location of all Elements in use at your site.
