URL types
As described under Static Site Generation Overview, two servers (either physical or virtual) are typically used for Static Content Generation. The URLs for those servers are:
- Public Static URL - The URL pointing to the root of the appropriate site running on the production Static Server. For example, PaperThin.com serves static content from www1.paperthin.com.
- Public Dynamic URL - The URL pointing to the root of the appropriate site running on the production Dynamic Server. For example, PaperThin serves dynamic content from the URL www.paperthin.com.
- Authoring URL - The URL pointing to the root of the appropriate site running on the authoring server. Depending on your configuration, this may (for a single-server license) or may not (in a multi-server replication environment) be the same server.
- Test Static URL & Test Dynamic URL – For a site configured to replicate to one or more read-only production servers, you can configure the authoring server to generate static content locally, to test/prepare for generating static content on your read-only production server(s). Under this scenario configuring static content generation on the authoring server requires you to provide both test static and dynamic URLs to simulate production static and dynamic URLs.
