This year’s three week program will include anthropological and paleopathology analysis as well as digital and radiological studies of skeletal remains preserved inside the casts of the people from Pompeii, which expired during the 79 A.D. eruption and were found in the Pompeii necropolis of Porta Nola. The study of these bodies utilizes a pioneering and innovative approach to anthropology and archaeological research. The second aim of the project is the excavation and study of the Roman Forum of Alife. The Forum is the most important zone of Alife’s Roman city. The exceptional conservation of the Roman Forum makes it an ideal place for the study and understanding of classic and Roman culture. The Project: “Pompeii and Alife, the community of the living and the city of the dead“ is integrated with the International Roman and Funerary Archaeology Program in Pompeii and Alife (Italy). The project and practical program are coordinated and directed by archaeologist Dr. Luigi Pedroni and by the archaeologist and anthropologist Llorenç Alapont.
