This workshop will instruct students on the use of the latest techniques in Computational Photography to document a Medieval church in Western Bulgaria. It is undertaken to support and compliment the efforts of the “Fresco-Hunting” Photo Research Expedition to Medieval Balkan Churches that has been running for six years in the area. The students will learn the basics of good technical photography, and the theory of both RTI and photogrammetry. They will, by the end of the course, be able to set-up, shoot and post-process RTI images. They will also be able to take these images to create 2D drawn records of graffiti and inscriptions. The students should also be able to plan and execute close-range photogrammetry projects, including the creation and manipulation of colour point-clouds and the generation of orthophotos. The Workshop (31 May -7 June, 2014) is comprised of: Lectures and Workshops related to Advanced Digital Photographic Documentation of Artifacts and Architecture: Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) and Photogrammetry and Digital Drawing related to them; Field training on RTI and Photogrammetry at one medieval ecclesiastic edifice and an area with a couple of standing stone-crosses dedicated to different Christian saints; Guided visit of Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. Season Dates: May 31, 2014 - June 7, 2014. Cost: 849 EUR (app.1100 USD. Check current exchange rates!). The Admission fee includes educational and fieldwork activities, full-board accommodation (hotel + 3 meals per day), materials, project Handbook, issue of Certificate of Attendance, excursions/sightseeing tours/entrance fees and administrative costs.
