Poster Title: RECENT GEOGLYPHS IN THE SOUTHERN NEVADA DESERT
Author: COLLEEN BECK

Co-Author(s): COLLEEN BECK
Abstract: In a setting once used as a camp by environmental and anti-nuclear activists, archaeological research has identified an abundance of symbolic art made from locally obtained stones. These modern geoglyphs are spread over a 250 hectare area with some well hidden in the desert flora. The designs are varied and include flowers, hearts, doves, snakes, spirals, circles, peace signs, crosses, written words, and a memorial stone garden. The geoglyphs show much diversity in size and structure and are representative of the symbols associated with and adopted by the activist groups. These rock designs on this Nevada desert landscape form a heretofore unknown cultural legacy.
