| Abstract: |
Paste variability in prehispanic ceramics is an on-going conundrum for understanding the organization of prehistoric ceramic production within the Lake Pátzcuaro Basin, Michoacán, Mexico, home of the Late Postclassic Tarascan state (AD 1350-1525). Framed against the geology of the Basin, this petrographic analysis seeks to corroborate the ethnographically observed practice of mixed soil paste recipes and the probable role of volcanic ash in the prehispanic ceramic production within the Basin. |
