Abstract: Erikson (2006) argues that "[anthropology’s] lack of visibility is an embarrassment,” and that anthropologists must write in a popular vein to convey our unique perspective to the public. This workshop shows how to: turn academic scholarship into journalistic articles; engage media with anthropological topics; intervene as a “public intellectual;” and write rapidly in a public voice. Participants should bring one piece of their writing for review. Leaders will be available after the workshop for follow-up. Handouts provided.
