SAW Annual Report, 2002
Michael Blim, President

Membership is stable, and due to a dues increase passed last year, revenues have increased. Our annual surplus now exceeds one annual budget.

Specific Activities

Annual Meeting: The number of sponsored and evaluated panels dropped from 7 in 2001 to 5 in 2002. The SAW sponsored its second annual panel supporting the exploration of research collaboration with US organized labor.

Anthropology of Work Review: A new editor, David Griffith took up the work of AWR. The executive board to allow Griffith, in consultation with the president, to increase the size of the average issue, particularly in those instances where it is necessary to support the publication of worthwhile original articles.

Awards: The 2002 Arensberg Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Anthropology of Work was given to Judith-Maria and Hans Buechler. The 2002 Eric Wolf Award for the best paper by a graduate student on the anthropology of work was given to Ariana Hernandez.

2003 Plans

Continue cautious expansion of AWR and seek to expand the labor/anthropology dialogue to include parties interested in human rights.
