| 2004 Annual Report Society for the Anthropology of Work Michael Blim, President The Society for the Anthropology of Work had a highly active year. It commemorated its 25th anniversary with a plenary session at the San Francisco Canterbury Convocation, November 21, at which time global justice advocate Susan George addressed the relationships between globalization and the deterioration of workers' living standards in large areas throughout the world. SAW also organized a meeting between anthropologists and UNITE HERE union representatives in San Francisco that served as the capstone of the Canterbury Convention. In addition, all of our sessions, once scheduled for the regular AAA meeting in San Francisco, were held as planned. SAW also sponsored a panel in Atlanta for students on how to get a non-academic job. Our finances are stable, though significantly affected by the AAA's new journal arrangements with the University of California Press. The expense of publishing the Anthropology of Work Review has doubled by virtue of this arrangement. This remains a source of preoccupation and worry for the new executive board. Membership has been stable, though there is hope that our activities this past year may have a salutary effect on our numbers.
