Thinking about a career in anthropology?

For information on anthropology programs, we recommend the AAA Guide, a publication we put together each year that breaks down anthropology programs, faculty members' areas of study and contact information, degree requirements and much more.  It's a great resource and used by many in the profession.  AAA Members hav access to a searchable online version og the Guide.

Other Resources for Students

  • Grant and funding resources - Current Fellowship and Support Opportunities are listed on this page.

  • Field school opportunities - Current Field School Opportunities are listed.

  • Internships - Contact information for institutions that offer internships.

  • The National Association of Student Anthropologists - A Section of the AAA dedicated to addressing graduate and undergraduate student concerns and promoting the interests and involvement of students as anthropologists-in-training.
  • AAA online searchable jobs database - Not only can you search AAA's online database for jobs, but you can set up alerts (called "Notify Me!") to send you an email when a job is posted that meets whatever criteria you enter. Students can also post a CV for potential employers. You do not need to be an AAA member nor pay a fee to post a CV. July to November is the peak job-posting season, and jobs are primarily academic positions requiring a Ph.D. However, AAA is actively seeking more job announcements for applicants with B.A. and M.A. degrees.

  • Additional career resources in anthropology - One central location with an exhaustive list of online Anthropology Employment databases; Corporate and Non-Profit Career opportunities; Fellowships, Internships and Support Opportunities; External Anthropology Job Databases; Information on Careers in Anthropology; and Online Employment Assistance.

  • Resources for women in anthropology - This section contains primarily women-specific resources, but many resources can be helpful to minority students, as well as students seeking more detailed information regarding all aspects of obtaining an academic job. All resources here are informative for anyone interested in how gender plays in academia.

  • The  Committee on Minority Issues in Anthropology (CMIA) is dedicated to attracting minorities to and retaining them in the discipline and the Association, overcoming the alienation of Native Americans to the discipline, and defining and facilitating anthropology's role in public discourses about cultural diversity.

  • The Committee on Practicing, Applied and Public Interest Anthropology (CoPAPIA) was established to explore and engage the range of issues emerging as a result of the increasing numbers of anthropologists in and outside the academy doing practicing, applied, and public interest work
