Major Influences on Professional Life:
1. A grad student (when I was an undergrad), who helped show me the 'ropes.'
2. My major professor (last two years at Wisconsin), who steered me to Michigan.
3. My first faculty sponsor at Michigan, Blessed be he, who not only tolerated
my shifting interests (from human genetics to archeology), but lowered his demands
on my time as a first year teaching fellow.
4. Henry Wright, Kent Flannery, Roy Rappaport, and the other faculty at the
University of Michigan, who inspired and guided me during my graduate student
years.
5. Bill Stuart, colleague and friend at the University of Maryland, who encouraged
my inclination to regard Anthropology as a holistic field of inquiry.
6. Frank Hole, who encouraged my development as a young professional.
7. Joanne (O'Connell) Sontag and Bill Martin, who took a chance on me, introduced
me to my present field of work, and helped me to succeed.
