2 Postdoctoral Researchers: “Entrepreneurial Citizenship in China, India, and Europe”

The University of Goettingen has launched a transregional research network
(CETREN) under the broad thematic rubric of The Politics of the New. Funded
by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), CETREN promotes
collaborations between disciplines and area studies, contributing to the
production of innovative place-based knowledge in the social sciences and
humanities.

For a pilot project on Entrepreneurial Citizenship: New Economies and the
Respatialisation of Citizenship in China, India, and Europe,

CETREN seeks to fill 2 Postdoctoral Research Positions

The two positions, to begin in April 2014, will be offered as two-year
fixed-term contracts on a full-time basis (currently 39,8 hours per week)
and will be remunerated at the TV-L E 13 level (in accordance with the
German public sector pay scale).

Project description

The project Entrepreneurial Citizenship is led by Professors Sabine Hess
(Cultural Anthropology/European Ethnology), Srirupa Roy (Centre for Modern
Indian Studies) and Peter van der Veer (Director, Max Planck Institute for
the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity). It will investigate how
discourses and practices of economic transformation are reshaping
structures, ideals and spaces of citizenship across the globe in the
contemporary historical conjuncture. The focus is on how the growing
symbolic and material prominence of the “entrepreneurial citizen has
re-spatialised relations of power and sovereignty in three different
regional configurations of new economic order: the “emerging markets of
India and China and the “restructuring economies” of Europe (see project
description at https://www.uni-goettingen.de/**en/422555.html<https://www.uni-goettingen.de/en/422555.html>or,
from October, at
http://www.cetren.de)

Within this context, we invite postdoctoral research proposals that
theoretically and empirically analyze entrepreneurial citizenship in a
transregional or comparative framework. The overall projects main focus is
on India, China and Europe.

Successful applicants must have a PhD in a relevant field, including
anthropology, sociology, political science, geography, cultural studies, or
area studies. They must demonstrate empirical/field research experience and
language competence appropriate to their research topic. Researchers will
be based at the University of Gttingen but will have the opportunity to
conduct fully-funded field research for part of the two-year period, upon
consultation with the principal investigators.

Applicants from all countries are encouraged to apply. Fluency in English
is expected. A complete application will consist of a cover letter, a CV, a
