CFP – Gender Based Violence – Society for Applied Anthropology meetings in Albuquerque in March 2014.

The Gender-Based Violence Topical Interest Group of the Society for Applied Anthropology welcomes papers and/or sessions related to the topic of gender-based violence for the Society for Applied Anthropology meetings in Albuquerque in March 2014.

We suggest that gender-based violence is “violence against an individual or population based on gender identity or expression” (Wies and Haldane 2011).  In other words, gender-based violence can include sexual violence, intimate partner violence, violence against women, violence against LGBTQ populations, or structural violence that is gendered.

We welcome the contributions of social and behavioral scientists studying gender-based violence.  We are working to organize individually-submitted papers into sessions and link existing sessions along a thematic track related to gender-based violence.  Please contact us if you have a paper or session that you wish to connect with this thematic track.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Wies (Jennifer.wies@eku.edu) and Hillary Haldane, Gender-Based Violence Topical Interest Group Co-Chairs

The Committee now includes in each issue of the SfAA News excerpts from those interviews. A backlog of interview tapes has accumulated. The Board encourages contributions to this effort so that more interviews may be transcribed. You can include a contribution with your membership dues renewal, or by contacting the SfAA Office.
