Lewis & Clark College

The Department of Sociology and Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track position in anthropology at the assistant professor level. We seek candidates whose research and teaching complement the department’s strengths. Areas that would be particularly complementary include analyses of expressive/material culture (language, performance, art, music) and/or globalization/ neoliberalism (poverty, structural violence, crime). In addition, we seek candidates who focus geographically on South Asia, Southeast Asia, Japan, or Korea. We also have a preference for candidates who can contribute to the College’s interdisciplinary Gender Studies or Ethnic Studies programs. Lewis & Clark College, an Equal Opportunity Employer, is committed to preparing students for leadership in an increasingly interdependent world, and affirms the educational benefits of diversity (http://www.lclark.edu/dept/about/diversity.html). We encourage applicants to explain how their teaching at Lewis & Clark might contribute to a learning community that values diversity. The normal teaching load is five courses per academic year. A Ph.D. in Anthropology at the time of employment, excellent teaching credentials, and an appreciation of the role of research at an undergraduate liberal arts institution are essential. Applications should include: (1) a curriculum vita; (2) a letter of application which includes a statement of educational philosophy, teaching experience, and research interests; (3) evidence of teaching effectiveness; (4) sample of scholarship; (5) three letters of recommendation sent under separate cover; and (6) graduate transcripts. Send to: Chair, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, Lewis & Clark College, 0615 SW Palatine Hill Road, Portland, OR 97219, terry@lclark.edu. Review of applications will begin on Oct. 15 and continue until the position is filled. Interviewing will occur at the 2011 annual meetings of the AAA. Many thanks for considering this request.
