				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dear ALLA Members and Friends,</p>
<p>The Association for Feminist Anthropology will celebrate its 25th anniversary this year, marking our inception as a formal AAA Section.  Since 1988 AFA has had an impressive history fostering critical inquiry related to women and gender, a history that intersects with other disciplines, discourses, and social categories.  Today feminist anthropology has permeated our epistemology and pedagogy.</p>
<p>To mark this important anniversary, the Association for Feminist Anthropology will author an annotated history of the AFA, using the AFA Archives housed at the Smithsonian and other sources.  Research will be conducted by a student intern through the AAA Summer Internship program.  The finished product will be a useful guidebook for research and scholarship related to our mission:  pedagogy and scholarship in feminist anthropology.</p>
<p>To defray the costs of hosting an AFA Summer Intern estimated at $4,000, the AFA is embarking on a fund-raising drive.  We ask you to donate to the AFA Summer Internship Program through the AAA, using the attached form.   All donations are fully tax-deductible.  On-line donations may be made through the AAA Internship program at:  &amp;lt;&amp;gt;</p>

<p>Over the next one to two years, the Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) seeks to hire two anthropologists for tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level who will contribute theoretical and empirical innovation at the leading edge of the discipline. 				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>COMPARATIVE AMERICAN STUDIES – LATINO STUDIES</p>
<p>The Comparative American Studies Program at Oberlin College invites applications for a full-time non-continuing faculty position in the College of Arts and Sciences. Appointment to this position will be for a term of one year, beginning in the Fall semester of 2013, and will carry the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor.</p>
<p>The incumbent will teach a total of five courses in Latino Studies. For this position, preference will be given to candidates with training in the social sciences with research and teaching interests in comparative race and ethnicity, contemporary social movements, education, urban political economy, Latino politics and/or academically-based service learning. The Comparative American Studies Program is committed to interdisciplinary and theoretically informed intersectional pedagogy at the undergraduate level. Faculty are expected to integrate issues of gender, race, ethnicity, class, sexuality, and citizenship within comparative and/or transnational frames throughout their teaching.</p>
<p>Among the qualifications required for the appointment is the Ph.D. degree (in hand or expected by the first semester of 2013). Candidates must demonstrate interest and potential excellence in undergraduate teaching. Successful teaching experience at the college level is desirable.</p>
<p>To be assured of consideration, a letter of application, including a curriculum vitae, graduate academic transcripts, course syllabi if available, title and brief descriptions of 2-3 courses the candidate could teach, and at least three recent letters of reference should be sent to: CAST LST Search Committee, Comparative American Studies Program, Oberlin College, 10 N. <p>The Department of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley seeks to fill a tenure-track, junior position (Assistant Professor) in the area of the anthropology of media to begin July 1, 2013. Suitable applicants should be engaged in analytically rich and ethnographically-driven research on topics concerning the production, circulation, and uptake of media artifacts, aesthetic forms, and practices. Areas of specialization we are interested in span both “old” media (print, radio, TV, film) and “new” media (Internet, smart phones). Active participation in both undergraduate and PhD programs, teaching both introductory and upper division courses, as well as graduate seminars is expected.</p>

<p>1) the study of the Dominican Republic and/or the Dominican diaspora, with a preference for substantive specializations in inequality, human rights, migration, immigrant rights, and the dynamics of U.S. Dominican communities; and</p>

<p>The ACUNS Dissertation Award recognizes students of extraordinary potential<br />
who are writing graduate-level dissertations on topics related to the<br />
United Nations system, including areas central to the organizations work<br />
such as social justice and development, economic and social issues, human<br />
rights, women&#8217;s rights, humanitarianism, international peace and security,<br />
international criminal law, the environment, and the international<br />
financial architecture.</p>
<p>Eligible candidates may be citizens of any country and must be at the<br />
dissertation-writing stage of a Ph.D., J.S.D. or LL.M. level and engaged in<br />
the writing stage of their program.</p>
<p>The Award is in the amount of $1,500 US. The winner is encouraged to attend<br />
and to present her/his research at the 2013 ACUNS Annual Meeting, and will<br />
receive an additional $500 reimbursement of costs after she/he does so.</p>
<p>The winner will be notified by February 15, 2013. Due to the large volume<br />
of applicants, the Secretariat will contact only the Award winner. Details<br />
of the winning research project will be posted on the ACUNS website after<br />
February 15, and if in attendance the winner will be introduced at the<br />
ACUNS Annual Meeting at Lund University, Sweden, June 17 &#8211; 19, 2013.</p>
<p>The winner is encouraged to submit some written product to the academic<br />
journal, *Global Governance*, though use of any materials remains at the<br />
discretion of the journal editorial team.</p>

				<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Purdue University seeks to hire an Associate or Full Professor as Director for its distinguished program in American Studies. The program offers degrees at the M.A. and Ph.D. level and includes a new, fast-growing undergraduate major. American Studies at Purdue has strong affiliations with programs in Women’s Studies, African American Studies and Asian American Studies among others. The Director of the program must demonstrate a fluency in interdisciplinary research and the ability to provide intellectual leadership to students working in a variety of humanities and social science research fields.</p>
<p>A Ph.D. in American Studies or field appropriate to the position is required. The successful candidate for the position should bring a distinguished record of scholarship and teaching in American Studies or one of these related fields: History, English, Anthropology or Sociology, with the successful candidate’s tenure home being in one of these four departments. The Director will be fully appointed in American Studies and will be responsible for directing a large affiliated faculty, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in American Studies, shaping curriculum and giving intellectual vision and direction to the program. Administrative experience is preferred but not essential.</p>

Applicants must have a social science or historical focus. The position will be housed half in the Department of American Studies and half in another appropriate department. Significant scholarly achievement and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting with a diverse student population are essential.</p>
<p>The successful candidate will teach two courses each semester and direct senior honors theses; annual teaching responsibilities will include courses at all levels from first-year courses and core courses in the relevant departments to specialized advanced seminars.</p>
<p>Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have broad intellectual interests and a proven track record of excellence in scholarship and in undergraduate teaching.
