Assistant/Associate Professor of Medical Anthropology

The Department of Global & Sociocultural Studies (GSS) at Florida International University invites applicants for a tenured/tenure-track appointment as Assistant/Associate Professor of Anthropology, beginning Fall 2012. The department seeks applicants with specialization in medical anthropology with strong records of research publications, external funding, and ability to fund and mentor doctoral students. Research foci and geographic area are open. The GSS Department is in a dynamic phase of growth. We are developing multiple BA degree programs and have transformed our doctoral program into an innovative, interdisciplinary degree program that weaves together anthropology, geography, and sociology. GSS is part of FIU’s new School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). The Department’s diverse faculty shares a commitment to cross-disciplinary research on the themes of identities and inequalities, migrations and diasporas, and nature-society. Applicants should be prepared to teach research methods and sociocultural theory, and demonstrate a willingness to engage in interdisciplinary scholarship.
