#2. Until recently, CAE sponsored a Saturday or Sunday morning breakfast of "Past Presidents" at the AAA Meetings. This perhaps became too expensive and/or just another complication for program organizers. But the PPs enjoyed it and incoming/current officers seemed to value some of the info the PPs could provide. With several other PPs, I propose that this custom be re-instated, and I am willing to manage it (e.g., contact PPs, negotiate time, place, etc.), although Dorothy & I probably will skip SF next year ($$$). I suspect the PPs will be willing to pay for their own breakfasts, or eschew a meal altogether. How does this sound to you?--John

Fred Gearing has died. Because he was highly respected as a conventional enthropologist, he was one of the crucial founders of CAE, back in the 60's. (He became less active in later decades.) Also, as an early contribution, he tried to develop a theoretical perspective for ed anthro, which was innovative but ultimately too complex for most of us to use. Has any recognition of Fred's life and work been proposed? Important that some recognition be given.
