FOSAP Listserv – Effective Fall 2006

We have set up a listserv to provide an informal discussion forum during the year. This list server is a 'machine' not a person, and there are two separate addresses to keep in mind for different purposes.

To subscribe or unsubscribe:

1. Address your email to the following (machine) recipient: LISTSERV@CSTL.SEMO.EDU

2. In the body (text portion) of your email, type on a single line the command for the action you want the machine-interpreter to execute. That is, your message content will be either "SUBSCRIBE FOSAP@CSTL.SEMO.EDU" or "UNSUBSCRIBE FOSAP@CSTL.SEMO.EDU" (without the quotation marks).

Note: Do not add other comments or instructions, because the only syntax the machine-interpreter understands is [Verb Object], where the verb is either subscribe or unsubscribe and the object is the name of the mailing list itself.

To post a message to the FOSAP list:

1. Address your email to the following recipient: FOSAP@CSTL.SEMO.EDU

2. If you are beginning a new subject (a new thread), fill in the subject line of your email to reflect the content of your missive.

Caution: Please bear in mind that if you "reply" to an incoming email from the listserv that your response will be sent to all the subscribers on the listserv, not just the person who last contributed to the subject-thread. If you want to communicate privately with a sender, you will need to compose a new email and address it just to him/her.

PLEASE BE AWARE OF THE TWO DIFFERENT ADDRESSES

LISTSERV@CSTL.SEMO.EDU = message to a machine (only "subscribe" or "unsubscribe")

FOSAP@CSTL.SEMO.EDU = message to everyone on the list
