Founded in 1999, this site was originally web-mastered by Deborah Shepard (Anoka-Ramsey Community College, Coon Rapids, Minnesota) and was graciously hosted by the University of Wisconsin Green Bay (the original address was http://www.uwgb.edu/sar/ - a legacy version of the original website can still be found at that address). Deborah Shepard's original design and coding is still the backbone of this site.
In 2006, the official SAR website was moved to its new location on the server of the American Anthropological Association. This change was made to ensure continuity of web presence, and to allow the SAR to make greater use of the possibilities offered by partnering with the AAA. At the same time, Deborah Shepard retired from her web-master position, and the position was taken over by Jon Bialecki (UCSD).
In 2008 the SAR website was substantially recoded and redesigned, in large part thanks to the assistance of Michael McManus.
